Tube Bird Feeders

What are they?
Tube Bird feeders are usually see through and can range in lengths. They are great for bird enthuses as they are great to see birds clearly feeding.  They can be placed where ever you want so bird watching can be enjoyed from your preferred place.

Tube Feeders:

Tube feeders are sometimes made out of plastic – as this is stain resistant, translucent, and hardwearing. It is also very easy to clean. The advantage of the translucent design is that you can see when it needs to be refilled.

A Tube bird feeder can keep seed and feed reasonably clean and dry to so it is a great feeder to prevent waste.  Some tube feeder’s such as the metals ones are also usually squirrel resistant.  Tube bird feeders come in many different sizes and materials each one is designed to fit the needs of different breeds of birds, so bear that in mind when picking one out. Finches usually are known to like the tube feeder.

Tube feeders as I said can be many different lengths some have triple tubes; all three separate tubes can be emptied independently.  The advantage of the triple tube bird feeders is that you can fill each section with a different selection of seed to attract different species.
If you prefer to just use one seed type, having three tubes of seed means less refills are needed. It also means that more of that breed can come on to the feeder.

Ranging in many different lengths tube feeders are great for people who can have a wide variety of sizes.

What seed can I use to fill it?

 When filling up the tube bird feeder look at the types of birds you want to attract and put in the correct type of seed/ feed for that breed.
 Black-Oil Sunflower seeds attract cardinals, chickadees, nuthatches, titmice and jays.
Nyjer seed and Thistle seed attract a variety of finches.  I have had great success with Goldfinches when using the Nyjer, the most has been 20 at one time.
There are special tube bird feeders for this seed type because of the smaller seed.  Some tube style bird feeders have reversible feeding ports which change the tube bird feeders from seed bird feeders to nyjer/thistle bird feeders.

Tube feeders are a great idea and great to see when the seed needs topping up, a great gift idea for those who love bird watching. Easy to maintain and to top up the tube feeder is a versatile feeder.
